BIOS (Basic Input Output System) was a chip that filled by electromagnetic (lighting) ways, and generally stored in a chip called EPROM or EEPROM , with this technology we are able to update the BIOS. There are many brands at the market today’s, for example AMI AWARD, Phoenix, etc. All brands depend on motherboard brands used. BIOS on the build up motherboard made by vendor it self (such as Dell, HP, Acer). BIOS could be damaged by lifetime, wrong setup and uses or by virus attacks.
There are many options inside BIOS setup, generally divided by several categories, such as: Standard CMOS, BIOS Features, Power Management, Integrated Systems, etc.
The several options of each category are:
- Standard CMOS Setup, it was hardware configuration of the most basic, such as date, time, HD, drives, and video
- BIOS Features Setup, there is an advance level configuration such as virus warning, CPU’s internal cache, External Cache, Quick Power On Self Test, the boot sequence, and others.
- Advanced Chipset Features, there is an option to optimize DRAM timing, CAS latency, Cycle length SDRAM, AGP aperture, AGV mode. (for expert and professional uses)
- Integrated Peripherals, to controlling an additional functions on the motherboard, such as serial and parallel port. Just disabled that you no need to use.
- PnP / PCI Configurations, much better for selecting all configuration in auto, except the USB port or 3D graph that often displaying a problems. Or give own interrupt.
- To restore in standard function before changed, just load BIOS Default & load setup default.
